Rage Against The Machine for Christmas number one?

RATM: This year's Christmas number 1?Thousands of Music fans have joined an online campaign to stop this year’s XFactor finalist claiming the Christmas number one.

Campaigns have been set up on Facebook and Twitter to get Rage Against The Machine to the top spot this year with their anti-authority themed tune, ‘Killing in the name.’

The past four years have seen the Christmas number one spot taken by a reality TV star that Simon Cowell has created and RATM fan, Jon Morter believes it is time to put an end to Cowell’s legacy.

Previous campaigns to stop the XFactor winning being number one have failed – last year there was an attempt to get the original version of ‘Hallelujah’ by Jeff Buckley to the top spot instead of Alexandra Burke’s cover version.

Louis Walsh has signed a deal with X Factor rejects John and Edward.

Walsh mentored the twins throughout ITV1’s The X Factor and faced much criticism. Many believed that John and Edward did not have the vocal ability of many of the other contestants. They faced multiple backlashes when more competent acts were voted off instead of them. They eventually got booted off the singing show two weeks ago.

Walsh is said to be “delighted” at the idea of working with them again and is looking into recording contracts and television roles.

Could this years Christmas number one go to Jedward? Do you think they will be the next Ant and Dec? And will their career become as popular as they were on The X Factor?

Edd’s Nice News – Thursday 26 November

I am happy to say that both the girls are now awake, smiling and laughing after leaving intensive care at The Royal Children’s Hospital. The twins who were joined at the head and pulled through 25 hours of intense surgery last week with the help of the brilliant doctors and nurses at the hospital. Moira Kelly the girl’s guardian ‘did a yelp of joy’ when Krishna, who recovered after her sister, blew a raspberry to an overjoyed Ms. Kelly after awaking from her medically induced coma.

Jedward might not be popular but The X Factor is.

The Sunday results show of The X Factor achieved the series highest ratings with over half of the available TV audience tuning in for Lucie’s premature exit.

The show peaked with over 16 million viewers and a massive 54 per cent share, easily making it the most watched show of the week and possibly the year, let alone the night. This week saw Welsh singer Lucie Jones voted off during deadlock with the twins John and Edward. The result has caused outrage all over the Internet with Facebook and Twitter statuses branding Simon Cowell a coward for leaving it up to the public vote.

Jedward have been receiving bad press since they were put through.

However it can be argued that although many are threatening to boycott The X Factor, John and Edward’s presence is pulling in the huge viewing figures. Many see them as entertaining including one of Smoke Radio’s heads of news. Saturday’s show pulled in 11.8 million viewers.

The BBC had chosen to re-schedule Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend in order to avoid an X Factor clash. The change in timing meant that the two shows only overlapped by 15 minutes. However Strictly only managed to grab 8.7 million, making its ITV rival a clear winner.

Adedeji and Lucker exit in shock voting results!

Rachel Adedeji and Zoe Lucker became the latest contestants to exit The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend, sparking shock across the country. But do these shock results mean that voters are more interested in entertainment than talent?

Both The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing have been in the spotlight recently for many different reasons. The X Factor has hit the headlines on numerous occasions due to Louis Walsh’s decision to put John and Edward through to the live shows. Strictly fans have also been airing their views on the voting results, with much more competent dancers being booted out in favour of the more entertaining contestants.

The X Factor

Last night saw 14 million people tune in for The X Factor results where Dannii Minogue lost her first act. Rachel Adedeji has been in the sing-off three times in four weeks. Last week she made it through but her performance was not enough to keep the public voting for her this weekend and she fell back into the bottom two along with Lloyd Daniels (the young Welsh heartthrob).

Both the judges and audience were shocked at the decision the public had made and many are angered by the continuing success of twins, John and Edward (Jedward). Last week the Irish twins topped the public votes and although they are not the best singers, many see them as having the entertainment factor.

With Jedward through to next week and Rachel and Lloyd singing for survival, the judges had a tough decision to make, who to save? Dannii kept her act in, as did Cheryl. Louis voted for Rachel, with the deciding vote going to the head of the show, Mr Simon Cowell. And what did he do? He took it to deadlock, meaning the public votes would choose Rachel and Lloyd’s fate. Although Rachel was better vocally, Lloyd won the public over with his cute presence.

Many are now questioning what the public are basing their votes on. Is it down to entertainment, physical appearance or what the show is actually about, having the x factor?

Strictly Come Dancing

Not to be outdone in the voting surprises, BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing also saw one of the more competent celebrity dancers leave the show. Ex-Footballers’ Wives star, Zoe Lucker became the seventh dancer to leave the dancefloor in a dance off with Ali Bastian. Judges, Len Goodman, Aleesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel-Horwood branded the result as ‘ludicrous’. Both contestants were at the top end of the leaderboard and were potential winners.

So why is the public not seeing this? Is Strictly seen as more of a popularity contest? Are both shows talent or entertainment shows? And will Jedward be The X Factors answer to John Sergeant?

Finally, Smoke Radio would like to know what you think. Do you base your votes on popularity, entertainment, talent or physical appearance? Let us know and the best ones will be read out on-air.
