Rage to play free gig

Rage Against The Machine have kept their promise to fans and will play a free gig in London this summer.

The American band beat X-Factor winner Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one spot last year and promised to reward fans for their loyalty and support. The reward will come in the form of a free gig in Finsbury Park this June. The news was announced when the band were guests on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show.

Tickets will be issued via a balloting system. If you fancy going to the show on Sunday 6th June, you need to register on the band’s website by the 14th February – so get your skates on!

The concert will also include a full supporting bill and promises to be one of the most talked about music events of the summer.

McElderry losing the Christmas number one race

Winner of this year’s X Factor, Joe McElderry is currently behind rock band Rage Against The Machine in the race for the Christmas number one.

Eighteen year old McElderry is 10 per cent behind the rock band after Sunday and Monday’s sales it was revealed today. His single, ‘The Climb’ is put on sale on Wednesday and is expected to catch up with the sales of Rage Against The Machine’s h 1992 hit ‘Killing In The Name.’

A Facebook group that was created to get Rage to number one this Christmas has over 750,000 members, a total that is constantly rising.

The race is going to be an extremely close one but bookies predict that The X Factor champion will clinch the top spot on Sunday.

Over 19.1 million viewers tuned in to see McElderry’s victory on Sunday night making it the second most watched show of the year.

Joe McElderry wins The X Factor

Joe McElderry has won The X Factor 2009 beating Olly Murs to the £1 million recording contract. Over ten million votes were recorded.

The final was broadcast over two nights with each show lasting two hours. It is set to be a ratings smash with bookies predicting an estimated audience of 20 million tuning in for tonight’s final result.

Dannii Minogue’s act, Stacey Soloman lost out on her place in the final two last night, finishing in third place. She sang with Michael Buble last night. Joe sang with George Michael and Olly with Robbie Williams.

The final night was a spectacle of some of the greatest talent in the music industry with live performances from Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, JLS and the legendary George Michael and Paul McCartney. The show was opened by the final 12 acts.

Both Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell eagerly awaited the final result with Cheryl bursting into tears several times during the evening due to nerves. Both Olly and Joe pulled out extraordinary performances but in the end it was Joe that won over the audience at home.

After finding out he had won Joe performed his debut single, ‘The Climb’.

200,000 people applied but only one could win.

The X Factor returns to ITV1 in 2010.
