Monday was a very special night in the Smoke Radio calendar as we held our annual awards ceremony. Everyone who’s been involved in Smoke Radio this year gathered at the William IV in Kensal Green for a meal, a few drinks and to see who would come away with the much coveted awards!

First of all it was time for the big ones, the awards that really recognised the effort people had put in to our Student Radio station this year. And the awards went to:

Best Daytime Presenter – Jon Holmes
Best Daytime Programme – Signal
Best Specialist Presenter – Frank McWeeny (of French Toast)
Best Specialist Show – Going to Bed with Edd
Best Newcomer – Sam Lovell
Best Comedy – Apple Bites Back / Rich & Spike Show

Commitment to Programming – Apple Bites Back / Rich & Spike Show
Outstanding Contribution – Darby Dorras

Matthew Linfoot is the Course Leader for Radio Production here at Westminster, and it was for his help and support every year that he was admitted to The Smoke Radio Hall of Fame. Everyone here at Smoke Radio would like to say a huge thank you once again to Matthew for all your advice and expertise this year.

The awards  were gratefully received, applauses were rounded and speeches were made, but we weren’t finished there. There were still some slightly less serious, but still very impotant awards to be handed out. Here’s a run down of the rest of the winners:

Best Dressed: Bill Leuty, Will Kisby and Luke Beckett (Hard Talk)
Best Drunk: Sophie Clipsham and Nicola Clarke
Minor Celebrity Award: Matty Deller
Mr & Mr Smoke Radio: Matty Deller & Manish Doolabh
Mrs & Mrs Smoke Radio: Amy FitzGibbon & Alice Robertson

The other big news announced on Monday at the ceremony was who is to succeed this years committee, and take charge of Smoke Radio when we come back in the Autumn. There was a huge number of applications sent when we invited you to apply last month, and this years committee had some really tough choices to make.

And so finally it’s time for the news you’ve all been waiting for. The Smoke Radio Committee 2010-11 will be:

Head of Daytime Programming: Darby Dorras
Head of Specialist Programming: Sam Lovell
Head of Music: Edd Cross
Head of Web : Will Kisby
Head of News: Luke Beckett
Head of Marketing & Head of Branding: Massimo Paradiso & Rhianne Boland
Head of Events: Gary Pounder

After a busy year and a really busy week with Smoke on Tour, it was finally time for everyone to let their hair down, and they did so in style as the music and dancing went on late in to the night. The new committee will meet soon and start planning what we hope will be another fantastic year for Smoke Radio. So stay tuned and keep checking back as we keep you updated with all the latest announcements, plans and events throughout the summer!
